Dan Ryan Expressway, Chicago, Illinois

Under tight deadlines, heavy traffic conditions and even gunfire, Chicago Testing Laboratory assisted Gallagher Asphalt Corporation in completing a resurfacing of one of the nation’s heaviest trafficked roadways—Chicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway. Part of Interstate 94, the Dan Ryan is the main north-south artery into and out of the city, carrying over 250,000 vehicles per day, including 18 percent heavy trucks. Due to the heavy traffic, all work had to be conducted at night, with heavy contract penalties assisting in making sure the roadway was opened promptly each morning.

CTL provided the Quality Control materials testing and inspection on this project. The final result of was that the Dan Ryan Expressway Resurfacing Project from 67th to 99th Streets was awarded the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s 1999 Quality in Construction Award. CTL is proud to have been part of that team.
